Mapleton youth wins Arbor Day tree poster contest

The Utah County Department of Drug and Alcohol Prevention and Treatment is hosting the 3rd biennial Utah Legislative Alcohol Policy Summit at the Utah State Capitol on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  The Utah State Capitol is located at 350 N. State Street, Salt Lake City Utah.

This one-day event will feature nationally recognized experts from the prevention field and alcohol industry who will present research and information on the risks and benefits of changes to Utah’s alcohol policies.  The research and information will address public health and safety, economic development, tourism, impact on state and local governments, and other alcohol policy related topics.

Presenters during the one-day summit include Cassandra Greisen, a Faculty Research Associate with the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the Associate Director of the Center on Alcohol Marketing and Youth. She oversees the Center’s community outreach and engagement activities; Mary Segawa from the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board; Toben F. Nelson an Associate Professor with the Division of Epidemiology and Community Health at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health; Victoria McDowell, President and CEO of the Presidents’ Forum of the Distilled Spirits Industry. The Presidents’ Forum is a group of leading companies with common interests in manufacturing, importing, and marketing distilled spirits products in the United States and around the world. The member companies represent about 55% of all distilled spirits sales in the United States; Dr. Peter DeBenedittis, Director of Alcohol Taxes Save Lives & Money, an unpaid coalition working to raise alcohol excise taxes 25¢ per drink in New Mexico and Peter Erikson, Co-Founder of Epic Brewing Company headquartered in Salt Lake City.  Additional presenters include Michael Flynn of the Economic Development Corporation of Utah, and Nan Groves-Anderson, head of the Utah Tourism Industry Association.
