r By Lana HiskeyrNebo School District Title VI Indian Education hosted its annual Native American Winter Festival at Larsen Elementary on February 28, 2019.

James Singer was the keynote speaker and is a Diversity Fellow in Sociology and Ethnic Studies at Salt Lake Community College. He is also an adjunct professor in the Master of Arts of Community Leadership program at Westminster College where he teaches social change theory. Mr. Singer has been nominated and received many awards for teaching.

Cultural Envoy also came and Utah Valley University’s leadership program, which validates students’ cultures and supports their pathway to completion. The Cultural Envoy student panel answered to most frequently asked questions and concerns young people may face when entering college; they also showcased Native American songs and dance.

The Nebo Title VI staff and parent committee made and sold hot Navajo Taco dinners to raise money for graduating seniors.

Nebo Title VI Indian Education is a resource for American Indian students, their families, teachers and schools to access Indian perspectives and knowledge about current curriculum. This Indian Education event supplements the fourth and fifth-grade elementary presentation Title VI program conducts throughout Nebo District Schools.
